A French Jihadi murdered a senior French police officer and his partner Monday evening while broadcasting it live over Facebook.

Larossi Abballa, a 25-year-old  French national, is suspected of ambushing a 42-year-old police commander outside of his home, stabbing him to death, and then entering the home taking his partner and 3-year-old son hostage.

Abballa barricaded himself within the home with the two hostages, and after negotiations were unsuccessful, police entered the house at about midnight. French police rescued the young boy, but found the deceased body of the woman, who was also an employee of the police.

According to David Thomson, a Paris-based journalist who specializes in French jihadism, Abballa streamed a 13-minute video from inside the home of the couple over Facebook Live. At one point during the video, the son was behind the couch with Abballa saying; “I don’t know yet what I’m going to do about him.”

During the 13-minute video, Abballa reportedly swore allegiance to ISIS and showed images of the two victims over his Facebook. Thompson reports that Aballa called for more attacks on policemen, prison guards, journalists and celebrities. Aballa also reportedly stated that “UEFA Euro Soccer Tournament will be a cemetery.”

Abballa had already been under surveillance for his connection to another man who left for Syria. He was convicted in 2013 of “criminal association with the aim of preparing terrorist acts”. He was sentenced to a three-year term in prison, of which six months were suspended.

The ISIS-linked media outlet, Amaq news agency took responsibility for the attack, claiming “an ISIS “fighter” had carried out the attack.” French President Francois Hollande stated that; “It’s unquestionably a terrorist act,” and stressed that France was still “facing a very significant terrorist threat.” The slain police commander has been identified as Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, 42 and his deceased partner is 36 year old Jessica S.

France has been under a state of emergency since the November attacks in Paris, and the government has passed broad legislation to expand surveillance powers in order to combat the threat of terrorism.
