Warning: The following contains “Game of Thrones” spoilers.

Readers who watch HBO’s “Game of Thrones” have been waiting patiently for the arrival of Lady Stoneheart — a resurrected Catelyn Stark who leads an army on a quest for vengeance. However, as we near the conclusion of season six, actress Michelle Fairley has yet to make her return.

While some fans still hold out hope, most have resigned themselves to the fact that Lady Stoneheart will not be appearing on screen. Director Mark Mylod seems to echo that sentiment in a recent interview.

“I’m not in the writers’ room, and I can honestly say, hand over heart, that I have not had one discussion about Lady Stoneheart,” Mylod told IGN. “I’ve genuinely had no discussions about Lady Stoneheart, so I genuinely couldn’t comment about whether that might or might not be in their minds for the future.”

If Mylod, who has been with the show for two years now, hasn’t heard anything about this fan favorite character, it’s fair to assume she won’t be making an appearance anytime soon. Mylod helmed the last two episodes and was responsible for the major scenes involving The Hound and the Brotherhood Without Banners. It Lady Stoneheart was going to return, it would have been then as she assumes command of the rogue group in the books.

Even Fairley has said it’s unlikely that she’ll be back on screen.

“You respect the writers’ decision,” she said. “I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible – they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.”

Just in case this is all an elaborate Jon Snow-like ruse, you can tune into episode nine of “Game of Thrones” this Sunday at 9 pm E.T. on HBO.
