ACLU Demands Tax Breaks For TV Industry Affirmative Action Hires

Here is more proof that the transgender bathroom-obsessed ACLU has entirely morphed from a civil liberties organization to an utterly doctrinaire left-wing advocacy group.

The national ACLU, Southern California branch and the New York Civil Liberties Union are now feverishly pushing New York State legislation that would give television shows $50,000 tax credits for each woman or “person of color”

The first of its kind law was proposed in 2013 but remains bottled up in the Republican-controlled New York state senate. “New York is an entertainment capital and a progressive leader,” says NYCLU deputy legislative director Bernadette Brown.  “By creating incentives for equity and inclusion in television, the state has a powerful opportunity to promote greater awareness of how we perceive race and gender and how we act on those perceptions—how a police officer views a black man; how a teacher treats a Latino child; what a young girl believes she can accomplish when she grows up.”

Powerful , indeed. The policy basically awards state tax benefits for potentially discriminatory employment decisions.  If a white male candidate is better qualified than a minimally competent black woman, who can reduce your tax bill by $50,000, take a wild guess who ends up with the job.

Experts say the proposed “diversity” tax break could violate the Civil Rights Act and the 14th Amendment’s equal protection guarantee by subsidizing and encouraging hiring bias.  Similarly Roger Clegg, president of the conservative Center for Equal Opportunity, says that “clearly an incentive is being created here for companies to engage in discriminatory hiring, and that’s illegal.”

Ironically, it is liberals who have long demanded that tax breaks not subsidize discrimination. Remember how they shrieked in the early 1980s when the Reagan Administration tried to grant tax-exempt status to Bob Jones University even though the school prohibited interracial dating?

But things are different today now that “diversity” is all the rage.
