Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is the best candidate to keep America safe, according to a poll published Wednesday.

Trump leads former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by four points, according to the Morning Consult poll, which asked: “Which one of the candidates do you trust to keep America safe?”

The results were relatively close, with Trump earning 41 percent of likely voters, compared to Clinton’s 37 percent. Over 20 percent of respondents stated they either didn’t know enough about the candidates to make a decision, or that they didn’t know which one was better.

When the data was broken down to just include Independents, the distance between the candidates increased, with Trump at 38 percent and Clinton at 26.

Respondents were also asked if they supported a general immigration ban on Muslims. Americans are largely split on the idea, with 48 percent in favor, and 40 percent against. The remaining 11 percent stated that they didn’t know or had no opinion.

Republicans were mostly in favor of the ban, with 49 percent approving it — 26 percent of Independents support it and only 16 percent of Democrats think it’s a good policy. Over 50 percent of those who agree with the ban believe immigrants from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan should be banned.

Morning Consult also revealed 46 percent of those polled support an immigration ban on Mexico. Illegal immigration was a key issue throughout the Republican primary campaign, and continues to be an issue during the general election.
