Police in Washington, D.C. arrested a 17-year-old who plotted to kill his ex-girlfriend, her family and shoot up her school because she broke up with him and refused to get back together.
The Metropolitan Police Department executed a search warrant at the teen’s house last week after threatening messages were sent to the girl. The teen told the girl he would go to her home in Greenbelt, Maryland and kill her whole family, even saying he would bring friends to watch.
Police found an AK-47, 180 rounds of ammunition, marijuana and a fake ID at his home. The teen also texted the girl that he would go to Eleanor Roosevelt High School and “kill her along with anyone inside the school,” reports WUSA9.
The teen will be tried as a juvenile, so authorities will not release his name.
“It’s really frightening,” Tammy Colandrea of Greenbelt told WUSA9. “This is our neighborhood and this is where we invest in raising our kids and we’re committed to creating a better community and a safe place so it’s just terrifying.”
In an other text, he threatened to murder the girl’s current boyfriend. Additionally he threatened to go to New Carrollton to shoot up her mother’s office.
Authorities are holding the juvenile in D.C. before he is extradited back to Prince George’s County. The teen will also face child pornography charges for photographing the girl during a sex act and posting it on Instagram in an apparent act of revenge for the breakup, reports NBC Washington.
“If anybody thinks for one second that the actions of the Gun Recovery Unit there didn’t save countless lives, you’re making a mistake,” MPD Chief of Police Cathy Lanier said Thursday. “That’s the stuff they do every day.”
The juvenile will be charged with threats of mass violence and possession of child porn.
