Seventy percent of Democrats want President Obama to run for a third term, a new poll published Thursday revealed.

Asked whether they would prefer a Hillary Clinton presidency or a third term for Obama, 70 percent of Democrats polled by the conservative firm Wilson Perkins and Allen said they would prefer a third term for Obama. Twenty-eight percent of Democrats said they are ready to move towards a Clinton presidency.

Even with 70 percent of Democrats desiring another Obama term, Clinton is still doing well in national polls. Clinton consistently sees 70 to 75 percent of Democratic voter support, a number much higher than Trump’s average of 65 percent of Republican voter support.

The only president to serve more than two terms was Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who presided over the Great Depression and World War II. Congress passed the 22nd amendment to the Constitution in 1947, just a few years after FDR’s death while in office, and the amendment was ratified in 1953.

Although not legally possible, the fact that a large majority of Democratic voters prefer Obama to Clinton does not bode well for the Democratic front-runner. Clinton often has a short lead against Trump in the polls, but third party challengers from the Green and Libertarian Parties cut into Clinton’s lead, giving Trump the advantage.

Eighty percent of Democrats approve of the job that Obama is doing, according to an ABC poll of Democrats published Monday, compared to Clinton’s 36 percent approval rating in a Gallup poll.
