The Islamic State took credit for a massive explosion in a Baghdad marketplace Saturday night that killed at least 125 people and wounded more than 150, celebrating a third deadly attack on civilians in a third country in the past few days.

A car bomb exploded on a busy street in the heart of Baghdad as Iraqis were hanging out on one of the last nights of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Iraqi police report at least 125 are dead, according to BBC News, making the attack the deadliest in Baghdad this year.

The explosives were reportedly packed in a refrigerator van. A massive fire started by the blast and the panicked reaction of some witnesses is captured on video.

It’s another win for ISIS, coming just a day after ISIS militants slaughtered 20 people in Bangladesh and a few days after suicide bombers killed 44 people and wounded hundreds of others at an airport in Istanbul.

The terror group lost strategically important ground in Iraq last week when Iraqi Security Forces recaptured the city of Fallujah, from which ISIS had been launching attacks on the capital. The bombing is a reminder from the group of its capabilities of carrying out attacks despite strategic loss of territory.

The White House condemned the attack in a statement Sunday. “We remain united with the Iraqi people and government in our combined efforts to destroy ISIL,” the statement said, referring to ISIS. “These attacks only strengthen our resolve to support Iraqi security forces as they continue to take back territory from ISIL, just as we continue to intensify our efforts to root out ISIL’s terrorist network and leaders.”

The death toll is expected to rise, as dozens of people are unaccounted for and some are believed to be trapped or dead underneath the rubble. Many of the victims were children who were gathered with their families to celebrate the end of the school year, residents told The New York Times.

Soon after the car bomb, a suicide bomber detonated a vest in a Shia area north of Baghdad, killing about five people in an apparently unrelated attack not claimed by ISIS.
