Donald Trump’s campaign said the presumptive Republican presidential nominee would announce his running mate Friday, although Trump has said he might announce before then.

“When I heard I was doing it on Friday, I was saying, I wonder if those people know me very well,” Trump told Fox News, when he found out about the announcement his campaign made. The campaign made the announcement officially through campaign emails, as well as texts. In the messages, the campaign urges followers to sign up to receive VP updates from the campaign.

According to Trump, there are four Republican politicians who remain in the running for the VP nod: Governor Mike Pence of Indiana, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, and Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama. Former General Michael Flynn was also up for consideration, but after a tough week of controversial media appearances, he is no longer being vetted for the position of Vice President.

Trump arranged a meeting with his family between all of the candidates that are up for consideration. Chris Christie had his interview Tuesday. Jared Kushner, an advisor to Trump, and Ivanka’s husband also met with Christie Tuesday. Wednesday, the Trump family visited Pence at his house in Indiana to interview.

Trump also asked each candidate to campaign with him, in what Gingrich called “interviews.” “It’s a little bit like ‘The Apprentice,” Gingrich told Fox News Tuesday, “You find out sooner or later who the last one standing is.”

Trump told Bill O’Reilly he was looking for a “fighter, someone who is skilled in hand-to-hand combat.” During the interview, Trump hinted that they announcement could come early, because he wanted to ensure that the news dominated the weekend before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, which starts Monday.

“My guess is you’re going to hear either tomorrow or Thursday,” Gingrich said. “Certainly no later than Friday, because they’re going to want to dominate the weekend news with the new vice presidential selection.”
