Darryl Glenn is challenging incumbent Democrat Michael Bennett for one of Colorado’s US Senate Seats, and he talked to The Daily Caller Wednesday about his campaign’s core principles.

A second term El Paso County (Colorado) Commissioner, Glenn captivated attendees with his speech Monday at the Republican National Convention, where he dubbed himself an “unapologetic Christian, constitutional conservative, pro-life, Second-Amendment-loving veteran.”

In his eyes, President Obama has driven the country to the most racially divided point he’s seen in his political career.

“What I’ve seen over the past seven and a half years — our president ran as the Great Uniter, but we’re more racially divided today,” he explained. “And I think it’s important for people to be proud and brave and proclaim who they are. Be proud of this country, and that’s what I’ve put out there as my statement.”

“This is really the first time in my political career where we’re even having these discussions,” Glenn added in reference to the national dialogue on African-Americans’ relationship with law enforcement. “It should be based on what you’re bringing to the table… Now we’re being racially divided along lines, and I don’t think it’s healthy for the country.”

Glenn noted “the men and women in blue are part of the solution, not the problem.”

“They want bad cops off the street too. Are there issues to address? Absolutely, but you do that by bringing people to the table,” he explained.

“You need to have policy makers, law enforcement and community leaders together, working hand in hand to support a community. Your first encounter with law enforcement shouldn’t be a negative encounter. It should be positive because these people are integrated into the community.”

Glenn, who served as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force for 21 years prior to launching a political career, also addressed the war against radical Islamic terrorism.

“The problem is we have an enemy that has declared war on us, and until you name the enemy, you are not going to be able to defeat the enemy,” he told TheDC. “Radical Islamic terrorism is real.”

“Our men and women don’t care what party you represent. What they want is the tools, training and equipment to be able to do their job, and to give them the rules of engagement that will allow them to win… That’s a reflection from the top from Mr. Obama.”
