CLEVELAND — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum said on Wednesday that Donald Trump is “a strong conservative” as seen in his vice presidential selection and his released list of Supreme Court justices.

In an interview with The Daily Caller from the Republican National Convention, Santorum was asked if Trump was a “social conservative” to which the former senator replied, “Donald Trump put forth a list a few months ago saying here are the folks that I would pick for the Supreme Court. Every single one of them is a constitutional conservative.”

“If your a social conservative, you know the most important issue is how the Constitution is interpreted on issues that deal with the sexual revolution. And I feel very, very comfortable that Donald Trump understands what limited government is and what a constitutional republic is by listing those justices.”

“Number two, he picked Mike Pence,” Santorum said. “If you look at the two things that he’s done in my mind that have sort of laid out a governing idea of how he’s going to govern, picking a vice president, a strong conservative, laid out a list of Supreme Court nominees of who he would pick — a strong conservative. That’s a good start.”
