Bernie Sanders called on chair of the Democratic National Committee Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign in the wake of the DNC email hack on Sunday.

“I told you a long time ago that the DNC was not running a fair operation, that they were supporting Secretary Clinton,” Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week.” According to the Vermont Senator, “What I suggested to be true six months ago turns out, in fact, to be true. I’m not shocked but I am disappointed. And that is the way it is.” (RELATED: Wikileaks Releases Nearly 20,000 Hacked DNC Emails)

“I also said many months ago is that for a variety of reason, Debbie Wasserman Schultz should not be chair of the DNC. And I think these e-mails reiterate that reason why she should not be chair,” Sanders said. (RELATED: Leaked Emails Show DNC Officials Constructing Anti-Bernie Narrative)

“Our campaign was about revitalizing American democracy,” he said. “I want to see that incorporated into the Democratic Party. And I don’t believe that Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the person to do that.”(RELATED: ‘Sexist Pig’ And Other Eye-Opening Revelations In The DNC Email Leak)

“So should she step aside as honorary chair of the convention right now? And should she be denied a primetime speaking spot?” host George Stephanopoulos asked.

“I think she should resign. Period. And I think we need a new chair who is going the lead us in a very different direction,” Sanders replied.
