CNN Contributor Van Jones wept over Michelle Obama‘s DNC speech Monday night.

He couldn’t hide the fact from Anderson Cooper, who was anchoring the evening panel.

“I’ve got to call you out,” Cooper said. “I saw you crying during this.”

Jones explained his unraveling emotions.

“Goodness, I mean, first of all, if you weren’t moved by that, go see the doctor,” he replied. “I mean, every American has to appreciate what it means for a woman like her to have grown up in chicago, dark skinned, not particular — you know, not the classically, you know, beautiful woman according to the theme of that time.”

Wait…what? He called the first lady unattractive in the same breath that he was dying over her speech?

“To be able to come out here, she gave a clinic how to connect to the American people, how to talk,” he said, continuing to blast her with praise after that whopper about her looks. “There are politicians, professional politicians who came up here tonight who did not connect with the crowd, and the very first time that Hillary Clinton’s name was mentioned, not one boo. The very first time Tim Kaine’s name was mentioned, not one boo.”

Jones stressed that Obama was not here speaking as a professional politician.

Rather, she was there as a mother.

Phew! Thankfully he didn’t return to insulting her looks.

Which was actually undeserved, as the first lady was having an especially good hair night.
