A D.C. Metro train derailed outside the East Falls Church station in Virginia Friday morning, causing two minor injuries.
Authorities closed the East Falls Chruch station and unloaded 75 passengers to the platform. Service is completely cut off on the orange line between the West Falls Church and Ballston stations and the silver line between the McLean and Ballston stations, reports WJLA.

Bus shuttles are in place for passengers affected by the derailment. Officials are urging commuters west of East Falls Church to ditch the Metro for alternative travel options.

Riders are reporting massive delays and crowded platforms across the orange and silver lines in Virginia.
Metro officials said the train derailed as it was switching tracks, according to WUSA9. The fourth and fifth cars of the Metro trains were affected. The train was heading to the Wiehle-Reston East station.
The Arlington Fire Department says the derailment is “minor.”
“Derailment occurred in the interlocking crossover section, not in the SafeTrack section,” Dan Stessel said in a statement. “Service is suspended during train removal and repairs. No estimated time on service restoration. One adult male patient transported after bumping his head while sleeping on the train during the derailment.”
Separately, riders on the green and yellow line are reporting delays after thick smoke filled the Georgia Avenue–Petworth station.
