Members of ISIS have criticized Pope Francis’s claims that Islam is a religion of peace, Breitbart News reports.

Several ISIS fighters mocked comments that Pope Francis made about the nature of Islam in an article titled “By The Sword” that was written for ISIS’s propaganda magazine,.

In response to Francis’s claims that Islam is a religion of peace and that ISIS primarily commits acts of terrorism for economic reasons, the authors wrote that “This is a divinely-warranted war between the Muslim nation and the nations of disbelief.”

The article goes on to sat that the Pope has “struggled against reality” in understanding and identifying the true nature of Islam. The article also stated that the primary obligation of all true Muslims is committing jihad.

According to the article, all Muslims are bound by the word of the Koran to kill nonbelievers: “The blood of the disbelievers is obligatory to spill by default. The command is clear. Kill the disbelievers, as Allah said…”

Pope Francis claimed last week that although the war ISIS is waging throughout the world is a “real war,” members of ISIS are primarily motivated by a lack of money and resources, not religion. He has not responded to the article.
