Islamic State firmly opposes Pope Francis’s “heartwarming” attempts to illustrate Islam as a religion of peace in the latest issue of propaganda magazine Dabiq.
Several articles in Dabiq go into length about how Francis differs from his predecessors in the way he defends the Islamic religion. ISIS is critical of Francis standing behind the gay community in the aftermath of the ISIS-inspired attack on a gay nightclub June 13 in Orlando, Fla., that left 50 dead, including the shooter, and 53 wounded.
“While previous popes spoke against Islam due to the actual reality they faced, based on mutual enmity between the pagan Christians and monotheistic Muslims, recent popes – and especially Pope Francis – have attempted to paint a picture of heartwarming friendship, seeking to steer Muslim masses away from the obligation of waging jihad against disbelief,” one article reads.
“Indeed, waging jihad – spreading the rule of Allah by the sword – is an obligation found in the Quran, the word of our Lord,” another article concludes.
Pope Francis ended a five-day tour in Poland Sunday by pointing out that radical Islamic organizations such as ISIS don’t represent the religion as a whole.
“I think it is not right to identity Islam with violence,” Francis told reporters on a flight back to Rome. “This is not right and this is not true.”
ISIS further outlines six reasons “why we hate you.”
The article claims Islam as a religion is violent in nature, hates “disbelievers” and says Western politicians who claim otherwise are just out to “garner as many votes as they can for the next election cycle.”
