A 62-year-old man was attacked by a crowbar-wielding stranger last week because he was wearing a Donald Trump T-shirt, police in Bloomfield, N.J. said Tuesday.

According to a spokesman for the police department, the victim was walking through the parking lot of a Friendly’s restaurant last Wednesday when a motorist began harassing him because of the Trump attire.

“The motorist inquired why (the man) was wearing the shirt, directing profanities at him,” Bloomfield Police spokesman Ralph Marotti said, according to the New Jersey Star Ledger. “The (victim) continued to walk away as (the) motorist followed him.”

The suspect, who witnesses described as a black male, then reportedly exited his vehicle, grabbed a crowbar and began assaulting the victim.

The victim sustained injuries to his hands, arms and thighs. He was treated at the scene. The suspect fled before police arrived.

The incident is just the latest in a recent string of assaults against supporters of the GOP presidential candidate.

On July 25, a Trump supporter was shot in the leg by a man during an argument at a Cleveland bar over politics. (RELATED: Black Donald Trump Supporter Shot In Cleveland Bar)

Late last month a 23-year-old Hillary Clinton supporter was arrested after he assaulted a 67-year-old Trump supporter outside of a rally in Pittsburgh.

And in June, numerous Trump supporters were assaulted by anti-Trump protesters at a rally in San Jose, Calif. One woman was pelted with eggs. A man was assaulted with a bottle as he was leaving the Trump event.
