Americans were furious that Laurie Hernandez was awarded a silver medal after her near-perfect beam routine at the Summer Olympics in Rio.
Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands won gold in the event with a score of 15.466, while Hernandez finished second with a score of 15.333 and Simone Biles in third with 14.733.
“I think this is one of the best routines that I’ve showed in Rio,” Hernandez said afterward. “I’m just happy I could perform the way I do in practice and stay calm through the whole thing.”
“I’ve been training so hard so I’m glad I just did the routine I’ve been doing in practice and I have no regrets.”
“I kind of thought I was going to throw up before I went,” she added Tuesday morning. “My coach said, ‘That was the most nervous I’ve ever seen you before a meet,’ but then once I got on the beam I was actually more calm than I usually am.”
Though her coaches submitted a request for an inquiry into the score from the judges, they rejected the request.
Hernandez’s fans expressed their anger on Twitter.

I really think the Olympic judges just didn't want the USA to win gold on everything so they robbed #LaurieHernandez & #MadisonKocian….
