The Olympic Record Holder You Don’t Know About

There is an athlete who has set the record for medaling in the most consecutive Summer Olympic games – six to be precise. In those half-dozen Olympic games, she earned three gold medals, two bronze medals, and a silver medal. Yet you’ve never heard of her, her excellence hasn’t gotten her a Wheaties box. She isn’t getting tons of endorsement deals. Who is this ignored Olympic great?

Her name is Kim Rhode. The only other Olympian to medal in six straight Olympics is an Italian luger. But Kim’s planning to keep going to the Olympics. But while this woman has dominated her sport since age 13, does she get media coverage? No, she doesn’t. I guess this empowered female role model isn’t interesting to the media, but they’d rather publicize every new outfit worn by someone famous for a sex tape and for marrying a rapper.

Why Can’t We See The Data?

Gun-grabbers have been wanting to lift prohibitions on the federal government doing research on the “causes” of gun violence. In 1996, Congress passed that prohibition because the “research” was little more than thinly-veiled propaganda for bans of handguns and semi-auto firearms. The games played with the data were blatant. In fact, remember how historian Michael Bellesiles made up his data for Arming America?

One recent study (thankfully, not with our tax dollars) came out of the University of Alabama, claiming to establish a relationship between gun ownership and mass shootings. You can probably guess the conclusions of that study. Now, it is getting interesting. The researcher has been asked to release the data. Now, maybe this is just me, but that “researcher” seems to be hiding something.

Why the Courts Matter

Concealed carry has become a contentious issue. While many states have either chosen to not require a permit at all, or they have “shall issue” systems, a few have “may issue” systems. These systems allow the issuing authorities to arbitrarily deny permits to people. These systems end up as de facto “non issue” systems in some locales.

So, in some cases, Second Amendment supporters have turned to the courts. In the 9th Circuit, a three-judge panel ruled against California’s “may issue” system, but the en banc panel of that court, packed with left-wing judges, overturned the three-judge panel.

Now, that concealed carry case is headed for the Supreme Court. Will SCOUTS understand what “shall not be infringed” means, or will we get some more nonsense?

Another Multiple-Time Loser Shows Gun Control Doesn’t Work

Okay, folks… this week’s exhibit as to how gun control laws fail to keep bad guys from committing crimes is Eduardo Irhneis Escobar. Escobar’s a real treat, forbidden from even possessing firearms or ammunition not only by virtue of a felony record, but by the fact that he’s in the country illegally.

Yet when he was arrested for his role in carjacking two older women, what was found on his person? A 5.56mm round, which 18 USC 922(d)(1) and 18 USC 9222(d)5 prohibit him from possessing. Those laws rarely get enforced – and these violations are worth ten years in the federal slammer. Each.

So, will the feds use the laws on the books to put this slimeball away? Doubt it. After all, such a move would make it harder to push for what gun-grabbers really want: Banning your guns.

Will Venezuela Be A New Gun-Grabber’s Dream?

Things in Venezuela have gone to hell. High crime, inability to keep a supermarket stocked. So, you think that the government would be trying to turn things around? Nope. Now, the government isn’t just trying a useless buyback program, they want to register bullets.

Look, if you want to stop violent crime, the wy to do it is to make sure the citizens can make committing those crimes much more hazardous for the would-be robbers, rapists, and other criminals out there. The idea that registering guns could stop crime was dumb enough. Registering bullets? The Venezuelans have managed to double down on really stupid.
