Garth Brooks fears the presidential race is overshadowing the tragedy in Louisiana and has pleaded for everyone to help the flood victims there.

Taking to his Facebook Live show Studio G, the 54-year-old country singer talked about the damage done from the flood waters in Louisiana that has left 13 people dead and damaged more than 60,000 homes. Brooks said he fears the word isn’t getting out about how bad things are for the people there. (RELATED: Garth Brooks: I Chose Family Over Fame)

“I can’t tell you how many messages through so many different mediums that we’ve got about the people of Louisiana,” Brooks said. “First, we want to send our love and all our strength down there. I got to tell you, with the Olympics and the presidential race that’s going on, I think that Louisiana right now may be getting lost.” (RELATED: Garth Brooks’ ‘The Dance’ Is Old Enough To Rent A Car: Why It Still Matters)

“This thing is really, really a bad situation,” he added. “Someone said that it might be the worst natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy, and we all know how bad that was. All our hearts go out to Louisiana.”

Brooks then let people know how they can help by donating through the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

“The main thing spread the word, these people need help,” he said. “If you are doing mission trips, if you are wanting to do go down and spend your time to help the recovery efforts if you want to donate, we are strongly suggesting that we pull together for the great state of Louisiana and its people.”
