South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley plans to help North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory in the polls by joining his campaign for governor Thursday in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

McCrory is best known in recent news for his approval of the North Carolina law requiring transgendered people to use the bathroom that corresponds with their biological sex. The law helped McCrory defeat his primary opponent, but the national backlash has fueled Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper’s run for the position.

Haley faced a similar battle with a bathroom bill, but opted to fight against the effort, calling it an “unnecessary” law. Haley did support McCrory’s decision, adding that she respected the controversial governor because he did “what he thought was right.”

The two southern governors also disagree on another issue: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. McCrory campaigned with Trump in July, while Haley has just voiced her support for the nominee, but endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio during the primary. Trump also criticized the South Carolina governor on Twitter.

McCrory hasn’t led in the polls since June, and Cooper has a 9-point lead in the most recent Monmouth University poll.
