A Cheney political dynasty could be on the horizon as Liz Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, won the Republican primary for Wyoming’s at-large congressional seat.
She is far from the first to attempt to follow in a political parent’s footsteps. Here’s a look at some of the most prominent families in American politics:
The Clintons

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination in July, seeking the office held by her husband, 42nd president and former governor of Arkansas Bill Clinton. The former first lady’s brother, Hugh Rodham, had a failed primary bid in 1994. He sought the Democratic nomination for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat.
The Bush Family

Four generations of Bushes have held public office, starting with former Sen. Prescott Bush, who served as Connecticut’s senator from 1952 to January, 1963.
His son, George H.W. Bush, served in the House before he was selected by former President Ronald Reagan as his vice president. He went on to be the 41st president of the United States. Former President George W. Bush followed in his dad’s footsteps, having been elected to the oval office in 2000.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, George’s brother, dropped out of the 2016 Republican presidential primary in February. George Prescott Bush, Jeb’s son, was elected to serve as Texas Land Commissioner in 2014.
The Kennedys

Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Joe Kennedy is the latest in the slew of Kennedys to hold public office, having been elected to represent the state’s’s Fourth Congressional District in 2012.
He is the son of former Massachusetts Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, who served in the House from 1987 to 1999. Joseph P. Kennedy was the son of Former New York Sen. Bobby Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968 while campaigning for president. His brother, Former President John F. Kennedy, was fatally shot just two years after taking office.
The Udalls

As noted by USA Today, the Udalls are the first family to have three relatives running for the U.S. Senate simultaneously. In 2007, former Democratic Colorado Sen. Mark Udall, his cousin Democratic New Mexico Sen. Tom Udall and their second cousin Former Republican Sen. Gordon Smith Oregon were all seeking office.
The Pauls

Former Texas Rep. Ron Paul served in the House from 1979 until 2013 when he announced he was retiring to focus on his third presidential bid. Paul’s son, GOP Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, was elected to office in 2010 and ran for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
