Dashcam footage shows bystanders rescue a woman from a burning car following a terrible 10-car accident in New York earlier in August.

A massive tractor trailer slams through a line of cars in the beginning of the video, and in the aftermath a white car is seen sitting against the median. Soon it is completely engulfed in flames, and a number of people rush up to the car to try to rescue a woman trapped in the front seat, but are pushed back by the heat of the encroaching flames.

Finally a man rushes up with a fire extinguisher and puts out the flames, and then a group of people wrest the woman free and carry her to safety.

WATCH:

Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash, but the tractor trailer reportedly had faulty brakes and was unable to stop in a congested construction zone, reports The Daily Mail. The woman suffered only minor bruises.

The mayor of Binghamton, New York, where the crash took place, shared the footage on Facebook.

“It captures the chilling first moments of the crash and the actions of bystanders who pulled a woman from a burning vehicle,” he wrote. “In a time of crisis, these brave individuals navigated through flames and broken glass to save a stranger’s life.”
