During a Tuesday morning interview on MSNBC, Bill Kristol explained how Donald Trump is cutting into Hillary Clinton’s lead in the polls.

“What gives is that Hillary Clinton is very weak candidate,” stated the Weekly Standard editor. “I don’t want Hillary Clinton to be president either, but those of us who don’t think Donald Trump is fit to be president should be careful, I would say, not to let our wishes become, you know, analysis.”

“I made that mistake in the primaries,” he continued. “I just couldn’t believe Trump would win, that people would wake to the con game, but they never quite did.” (RELATED: Multiple Polls Show Trump Holding First Lead Since Dem Convention)

Kristol noted that when you look at the new polls, “it’s pretty striking.”

“The MBC/Survey Monkey poll is a six point lead in the two-way for Clinton over trump. It’s a four point lead in a four-way,” he explained. “This year there is so much unhappiness, I think it’s probably more accurate to assume that [Gary] Johnson’s side will hold some vote. Evan McMullin may get some votes.”

“If I were in the Clinton camp, I would be a little nervous.”
