On Monday, the Obama administration reached its goal of admitting 10,000 Syrian refugees in a single fiscal year.

The Department of Homeland Security tweeted a message commemorating a milestone, but a hashtag the department included in the post drew heaps of Internet outrage.

Some users urged the the federal government should be trying to take in Christian refugees “who are being slaughtered and raped just because of their religion,” while others took umbrage with the administration’s willingness to help refugees while there are so many impoverished and homeless Americans already living in the country.
