The three-member panel did not release any information as to why Chapman was denied release. However, authorities say they had received numerous letters in favor of granting Chapman his freedom, but they also had received one letter from Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono, against his release.

In the letter from Ono, she expressed her fears of Chapman coming after their two sons, according to another report. Ono also said she worried Lennon fans would exact revenge on Chapman if he were released.

Chapman will remain behind bars at the Wende Correctional Facility in New York and be up for parole again in two years.
