Hillary Clinton spoke in Cincinnati, Ohio as Donald Trump traveled to Mexico on Wednesday, taking the opportunity to lecture her rival about how to lead and work with other countries.

“You don’t build a coalition by insulting our friends or act like a loose cannon. You do it by putting in the slow hard work of building relationships, getting countries working together was my job every day as your secretary of State,” she told the audience.

Clinton, who has received scrutiny in recent days about the special access she gave Clinton Foundation donors and leaders to the State Department, argued that diplomacy is about “building personal relationships.”

“People have to get to know that they can count on you, that you won’t say one thing one day and something totally different the next,” Clinton insisted.

Clinton indirectly attacked Trump on his past criticisms of Mexico and countered that leadership is “more than trying to make up a year of insults and insinuations by dropping in on our neighbors for a few hours and then flying home again. That is not how it works.”

She said diplomacy is “more than a photo op.”

Trump will later have a major speech on immigration after his meeting in Mexico City with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.
