Incorrect directional signs confounded customers and employees in a D.C. Metro station affected by current SafeTrack repairs Thursday morning.

Customers arriving at the West Falls Church station, where trains are single-tracking for the next 42 days, became confused during the rush hour commute after workers posted temporary signs that incorrectly labeled the direction of incoming trains. Trains going in and out of the station are sharing a single platform and the signs left commuters bewildered about which train to board, reports WTOP.

Employees with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA) were initially just as confused and unsure of where the incoming trains were headed.

“What direction is this train going in,” yelled a commuter who pounded their fist on a yellow line train, according to WTOP.

Train operators attempted to clear things up and were assisted by Metro supervisors who worked to direct passengers. Metro employees finally took down the paper signs just before 7 a.m. Thursday.

Orange line trains traveling between the Vienna and West Falls Church stations are single-tracking for 42 day for Surge 9 SafeTrack repairs beginning Thursday. D.C. Metro officials are warning riders at the Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church stations to anticipate large disruptions to regular service throughout the maintenance work.

Officials will also conduct added repairs every weekend through the surge, which ends Oct. 26.
