A Black Lives Matter activist now urges more police presence in his community after being robbed at gunpoint.

Jerry Ford Jr., a University of Houston graduate student, said he saw a young man hanging around his apartment complex, reports ABC 13. When Ford went to unlock his door, the man pulled a gun on him and stole his wallet and phone.

“I reach in right here to open the door and I turn back around and he has the gun right there in my face,” Ford said.

After the incident, Ford said he hopes the University of Houston police start patrolling the apartment complex. Because Ford’s apartment complex, the Vue on MacGregor, is located off campus, University police officers do not patrol it.

About a dozen cars were broken into at the Campus Vue apartments around the corner in the last month.

“It’s becoming a pattern. I hope they would take a bigger stance and put more security over here because you have a lot of people walking back and forth to class,” Ford said to ABC 13.

The Black Lives Matter Network recently announced support for a platform that called for divestment from police departments. The platform also called for the removal of police officers from schools.
