A Response To RedState

America had almost a year and a half of primary elections and now we are in the heat of the general. On the Republican side there were upwards of 14 candidates that were narrowed down to one: Donald Trump. Some voters and commentators alike cannot bring themselves to vote for him, and that’s their choice. But instead of remaining in a place of #NeverTrump, they have decided to eat their own and go after those who have decided to fight for their principles with the nominee.

One such group is RedState. After Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), was chosen to lead the pro-life coalition for the campaign the site posted a nasty article calling her and other leaders in the coalition spineless. The author, Kimberly Ross, uses Dannenfelser’s statement from January to try and prove that Dannenfelser is a hypocrite.

One thing that Ross fails to notice is that it’s no longer January 2016, it’s mid-September 2016. We now have one nominee for the one pro-life party in America. Whether Ross likes the nominee or not, that is reality.

Perhaps during the primary pro-life leaders wanted a different candidate. Perhaps they stood behind Senator Ted Cruz or Senator Marco Rubio. And maybe they stood with SBA List against Trump during the primary.

But when one considers the horror of abortion: innocent human lives at their most vulnerable place in their mother’s womb being ripped apart limb by limb, sold for body parts, paid for by taxpayers; how can a person remain silent?

In a divided election year, Ross has it wrong. She may disagree with the decision , but it is not spineless to join a campaign to fight for human lives. In fact, it is brave. Knowing that a decision like this would be hated by some and loved by others. To know that allies you have had around the country would call you spineless in their publications because they disagree with a position you take is courage.

The pro-life movement may be divided on whether they like Trump or not, but one would think that they are stronger than going after their own. The strength of the pro-life movement is in its ability to create new organizations and make decisions to reach out to those most in need at the moment and be a voice for the voiceless in every area of society. The movement has an ability to adapt like non-other. If someone sees an aspect of the movement that isn’t being done there is a new organization that is formed to address that weakness. No one organization is like any others. Each pro-life leader and activist has their own mission, their own calling, and they work to fulfill that calling to end the violence of abortion for women and their unborn children.

For a “pro-life” publication to openly call another leader “spineless” for taking a stand despite the reservations of others is in fact that: spineless. One may disagree with a position of a leader, but to attack them on a personal level for fighting for the unborn is wrong and it is exactly what conservatives charge Democrats with doing. It is time for the #NeverTrump crowd to re-evaluate and gain some long term vision of a post-November landscape not only for the movement but also for the unborn.
