Alabama football player ArDarius Stewart was armed on the sidelines of the game against Ole Miss on Saturday because he apparently fears assassins.

Stewart was spotted by the media cameras casually swinging an axe during the victory. Nobody was clear why, but the injured player appeared to address the situation on Twitter. (SLIDESHOW: Get College Football Started Right With These Top 25 Ranked Cheerleaders)

The wide receiver tweeted in part that “Axe= assassins.”

There are plenty of police at college sporting events so it’s unclear what Stewart had to fear. It’s almost certainly not going to sit well with the NCAA that a player was allowed to carry a deadly weapon during a football game.
