‘Magnificent Seven’ Destroys Competition To Take No. 1 Spot At Box Office

“The Magnificent Seven” surged to number one at the box office this weekend, beating out “Storks,” “Sully” and “Bridget Jones’s Baby.”

The star-powered reboot by Antoine Fuqua of the 1960s Western featuring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke brought in $35 million opening weekend, according to Variety. (VIDEO: ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Trailer Is Here)

“Storks” took second with $21.8 million, and “Sully” slid into third place at $13.8 million. “Bridget Jones’s Baby” disappointed again domestically with $4.5 million, but internationally it continues to do better, according to Deadline, making $21.9 million.

Cast member Vincent D’Onofrio and Pratt gave each other kudos for beating out their competition.

“Ok folks it has to be said @prattprattpratt is amazing in @mag7movie I mean when I watched I was like F*#k my friend is cool #therealdeal,” D’Onofrio tweeted.

 

“I love you very much Vincent,” Pratt tweeted. “You are a master.”

“So happy the movie is connecting to so many fans this weekend,” Pratt wrote on Instagram. “Cinema score gave it an A- which is way higher than any grade I ever got in high school. This is a perfect movie for daughters and sons to take their dads and grandfathers to.”

“It’s the perfect movie for fans of DenZel,” he added. “Kudos to our cast, our crew and the people Santa Fe and of Baton Rouge who have been going through some tough times as of late. We’re praying for you. Your hard work has paid off. They can’t take this away from us #godisgood.”
