The U.S. Marine Corps may ditch its famous ‘The Few, The Proud’ slogan in an advertising campaign slated to begin next year.

“It doesn’t say anything about what we do or why we exist,” Marine Corps Recruiting Command spokesman Lt. Col. John Caldwell told Marine Corps Times. Caldwell continued “We believe the new campaign products require a unique tagline to achieve the effort’s objectives.”

The new campaign will instead focus on “the fight” and what entails for everyday Marines. The campaign’s themes will instead focus on fighting self-doubt to become a Marine, fighting on behalf of the country, and fighting for local U.S. communities.

The new slogan and campaign have reportedly been approved by the Marine Corps Commandant. Caldwell clarified that the new slogan was not being put in place to appeal more to women, and instead meant to focus on the fighting spirit of the U.S.

The ‘The Few, The Proud’ slogan has been in use for nearly 40 years and have iconically come to define the Marine corps in advertising commercials.
