School officials in New Haven, Conn. announced Monday that students are not allowed to wear clown costumes or other “symbols of terror” in the weeks leading up to Halloween, the Associated Press reports.

The school district made the decision due to an Instagram account “phillyclown33” with a threatening bio.

PeopleCrime and NBC Philadelphia have reported on threats being made on the Instagram page.

People on Twitter have responded using the hashtags #ClownSighting, stating that some of these clowns have turned violent.

In the meantime, New Haven Public School officials have decided to put a ban on clown costumes entirely until there is more clarity on these alleged threats.
