“Pence’s record was marked by his religious freedom bill that allows businesses to refuse services to gay customers on religious grounds,” Colbert joked to the audience. “It’s as Jesus himself said, ‘get out of my pizza parlor, you queers.’ Matthew 29:12.”

“I’m paraphrasing. That’s a rough translation,” he continued. “It’s much more beautiful in the original Aramaic.”

Later in the segment, the Daily Show alum noted “there were some surprising admissions from this cultural conservative.”

He then played a clip of Pence describing his daily prayer routine, stating he tries to “spend a little time on my knees every day.”

“Apparently, Mike Pence is also very close with Vladimir Putin,” Colbert joked.

“Fair warning, Mike — Indiana businesses can now refuse to serve you, and it’s your law.”
