Gourmet Food Producer Has Massive Influx Of 911 Calls At Warehouse

Blue Apron, the New York startup that delivers fresh produce to your doorstep, has a major problem in its California warehouse: rampant violent crime.

911 calls are a common occurrence at the Blue Apron warehouse in Richmond, California, the New York Post reports. The 911 calls, the majority of which took place in 2015, reported choking, groping, alleged assaults, weapons, violent threats, and a slew of other atrocities. Four arrests were made in response to violent threats, the Post reports.

In fact, in the 38 months since the company opened the California warehouse, police have received twelve distressed phone calls, the Observer reports. Two calls were due to violence, three to bomb threats, and seven for assault.

The spike in violence and conflicts, employees of the warehouse say, is likely due to Blue Apron hiring members of Richmond area gangs to work in the warehouse. Gang violence on the streets of Richmond is so bad, that the city is actually paying kids not to kill each other. In a place already plagued by violence, it seems odd to hire rival gang members to work in the same warehouse.

The Richmond police chief notes that Blue Apron could have likely avoided the problem had they talked to area officials about the history of the city and the different communities that do not get along, according to the Post.

Blue Apron boasts over 4,000 employees across the United States, and is valued at $2 billion dollars.
