President Barack Obama slammed GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump Sunday following the leak of a 2005 video showing the candidate making lewd comments about women Friday.

The commander in chief didn’t directly refer to the video, but he alleged the billionaire is “insecure” and unfit to run the country while campaigning for Illinois Democratic Senate hopeful, Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who is running against Republican Sen. Mark Kirk.

“One of the most disturbing things about this election is just the unbelievable rhetoric coming at the top of the Republican ticket. I don’t need to repeat it. There are children in the room,” he said. “But demeaning women, degrading women, but also minorities, immigrants, people of other faiths, mocking the disabled, insulting our troops, insulting our veterans — that tells you a couple things. It tells you he is insecure enough that he pumps himself up by putting other people down. Not a character trait that I would advise for somebody in the Oval Office.”

A number of lawmakers on both sides of the political spectrum have condemned Trump’s remarks — including House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz and GOP South Dakota Sen. John Thune going as far as calling for him to step down.

Obama’s comments come just ahead of the second presidential debate, where Trump will take on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton at Washington University in St. Louis Sunday.

Trump released an apology following the video’s release and is expected to address his controversial comments at the event.
