John Boehner: I’m Voting For Trump

Donald Trump might not have been his first choice, but former House Speaker John Boehner says he will be voting for the Republican presidential nominee come November.

“He is not a conservative. He’s barely a Republican,” Boehner said in an interview with Vice News, previewed Tuesday. “He kind of became a Republican in order to run.”

Although Boehner contends that Trump lacks sufficient Republican bonafides, the former Ohio congressman said Trump’s ideas are more appealing to him than those of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“[H]is ideas, when you can get to them, are frankly more in the direction of what I would want the country to go to than Hillary Clinton,” Boehner said. “I like Hillary Clinton, I’ve known her for a long time, worked with her. She is not a bad person but it just would be more of the policies we’ve seen out of the Obama administration.”

While Trump is Boehner’s first choice out of the options that remain, Boehner noted that the billionaire businessman was hardly his first choice during the GOP primary.

“While Donald was not my first choice, wasn’t my second choice, and for that matter he wasn’t my third choice. But he’s the nominee and I am going to vote for him,” Boehner said.
