In any other year, Nation Faces Outbreak of Creepy Clown Sightings might be a disconcerting headline. Right now, though, I find it strangely comforting. I’m starting to lean pro-clown. If you want to dress up like Pennywise and run around freaking people out, that’s your right as an American. I mean, it’s 2016. If two men can get married, why can’t they get clownish? If you can be a woman just by saying so, why can’t you be Bozo? If we’re told we have to choose between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, why can’t we choose between a rubber chicken and a giant mallet?
If the whole world is determined to leap headfirst into madness, why not go out honking a bulb horn?

A video of a clown hanging off the back of a Detroit Department of Transportation bus in Detroit has gone viral…
DDOT released a statement about the video:
“The safety of our riders is DDOT’s number one priority and that is why we have significantly increased our Transit Police presence and have installed surveillance cameras inside and outside of all of our DDOT coaches. We have forwarded the video to the Detroit Police Department for review.”

And I’m not sure why the kid needed to do this. What, he couldn’t get a ride in the same car as another 20 clowns?
But I respect his decision to dress up like a circus performer and try to get himself killed. As long as he doesn’t hurt anybody else, it’s his choice. I encourage everyone to paint their faces, don brightly colored wigs, and leap off the nearest bridge. Why not? Nothing matters.
