GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump will reverse the normalization of relations with Cuba if elected president.

“The people of Cuba have struggled too long. Will reverse Obama’s Executive Orders and concessions towards Cuba until freedoms are restored,” Trump declared in a tweet Wednesday.

The New York billionaire previously said in a speech to Florida supporters in September that, “all of the concessions that Barack Obama has granted the Castro Regime were done through executive order, which means the next President can reverse them – and that is what I will do, unless the Castro Regime meets our demands.”

The statement made by the Republican nominee in September indicated a willingness to at least negotiate with the Castro regime. Florida is an important swing state in the election and is home to many Cuban-Americans that tend to vote for Republicans.

As a result of President Barack Obama’s executive order in December 2014, the U.S. has reopened its Embassy in Havana and the Cubans have reciprocated in Washington D.C. Obama is waiting for the Senate to consider his nominee for ambassador to Cuba.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is currently leading against Trump in the sunshine state. Clinton is polling at 46.6 percent in contrast to Trump’s 43.4 percent according to the Real Clear Politics (RCP) average. At the national level, Clinton leads Trump at 48 percent versus the Republican’s 41.8 percent.
