The Clinton campaign complained about “whining” reporters and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s “brusque” tone, according to leaked emails.

The camp referred to Clinton answering press questions as a “performance” and discussed ways to improve it in a series of emails leaked from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s account.

“We thought the substance was really strong. Watching the video, her tone was a little brusque and Jim has pointed out that she needs to work a bit on her expression as she listens to questions,” Mandy Grunwald, a senior communications adviser, wrote on May 19, 2015. “Nonetheless, the bites that are running on TV are good.”

Jennifer Palmieri, the communications director, claimed Clinton did a great job of avoiding questions she did not want to answer.

“I thought she did a great job of answering the questions she wanted to answer and not what exactly they asked (Iraq is good example), and kept it all in most positive territory possible,” Palmieri replied.

She also praised how Clinton remained calm in the midst of the “crazed” press.

“Given how crazed they were, she handled them well,” Palmieri continued. “Think it was important to do, press are now chewing over substance of her answers, which is better place to be than whining on how she hasn’t talked to them.”

Joel Benenson, a strategist for Clinton, agreed with Palmieri that the press needs to get over “the bullshit” that Clinton doesn’t answer questions.

“And I agree with Jen about getting past this and reporters having to get past the bullshit about not answering,” he wrote.

According to United States intelligence officials, the Wikileaks hacks have been tied to actors close to the Russian government. They believe that the hack on Podesta’s email account is possibly being used to interfere with the U.S. presidential election.
