Hillary Clinton’s chief campaign strategist worries about inviting a comparison between her and Bernie Sanders’ financial support from women in an internal email published by Wikileaks Friday.

“My concern is that he says he has more women donating than HRC,” Joel Benenson wrote in the November 2015 email. “What’s our answer to that?”

He was replying to a discussion about whether the talking points for a women senators event should include the fact that 60 percent of Clinton’s donors are women — a line she had used successfully in a Democrat primary debate with Sanders.

“We were debating whether to include the women donors stat, but wondering whether we should leave out since this is open press and Bernie does in fact have more women donors than we do (by number),” digital communications staffer Lauren Peterson wrote. “Let me know if folks have thoughts on that.”

The campaign’s national finance director Dennis Cheng replied: “I think the 60% stat is very impressive and we should include unless Comms disagrees.”

“It was the highest moment in the last debate… ,” domestic policy advisor Sara Solow said, weighing in. “But interested to hear if people think the Bernie number should change the use of this stat, also for debate purposes.”

Benenson’s reply in favor of leaving it out appeared to end the debate.
