Commuters grappled with delays across three lines on the D.C. Metro after a construction vehicle broke down on the tracks Monday morning.

Riders relying on the Blue, Green and Yellow lines to get to work were met with crowded stations and overflowing platforms. A construction vehicle was stuck on the tracks outside the Pentagon City station after the vehicle’s breaks would not release. While crews worked to release the break lock, officials single-tracked trains between the Arlington Cemetery and Pentagon City stations and the Pentagon City and L’Enfant Plaza stations, reports WJLA.

Delays persisted for several hours while officials with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) worked to clear the equipment. Additional delays slammed riders on the Red Line after officials offloaded a disabled train at the Van Ness station.

Metro officials updated their schedule for repair work last week to deal with a litany of issues system wide. Maintenance crews worked throughout the deteriorating D.C. Metro system this weekend to conduct the critical repairs.

Orange Line trains traveling between the Vienna and West Falls Church stations are single-tracking for 42 day for Surge 9 SafeTrack repairs that began Sept. 15. D.C. Metro officials are warning riders at the Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church stations to anticipate large disruptions to regular service throughout the maintenance work. Officials will also conduct added repairs every weekend through the surge, which ends Oct. 26.
