Amazing new footage of what appears to be a cluster bomb going off at night in Syria has surfaced online.

The bomb unleashed its payload on civilian targets in Aleppo’s western countryside Monday night, according to Syrian photojournalist Malek Tarboush. Small munitions released from the bomb lit up the pitch black Aleppo skyline, covering a large swath of territory.

“This is happening in Aleppo for real … it’s not a movie show or some kind of effects you watch on TV which made [were] made by Hollywood entertainment companies,” said Tarboush in an Instagram post Monday. “It’s a real cluster bombs (sic) hit the next street behind us.”

Russia and Syria’s use of cluster bombs against Syrian targets is well established. RT, Russia’s state-funded English news network, appeared to accidentally broadcast footage of a Russian warplane armed with an RBK-500 ZAB 2.5M cluster bomb. The footage was redacted from later broadcasts. Human rights group Amnesty International accused Russia of striking civilian targets with cluster bombs shortly after the Kremlin intervened in Syria.
