GOP Texas Rep. Mike McCaul hasn’t eliminated the possibility of challenging Sen. Ted Cruz in his 2018 primary Tuesday, saying the former presidential hopeful neglected his responsibilities while seeking higher office.

“I think he’s spent a lot of time since day one running for president,” McCaul told The Texas Tribune. “I think we deserve somebody in the Senate who is going to be representing the interests of the state of Texas.”

The chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security said Cruz could take a cue from former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who he says was “always, always focused on Texas,” according to The Hill.

Despite his criticisms of Cruz, McCaul said he does believe Cruz improved on working for his constituents after losing the primary.

McCaul has has been encouraged by a number of politicians and fundraisers in the past, with critics citing Cruz’s reluctance to endorse GOP nominee Donald Trump as a reason to challenge the incumbent, CNN reports.

While he wouldn’t confirm a primary bid, he said it would be unwise to limit his options this far in advance.

“I have several options potentially in front of me, and I’m not going to say no to any of them, whether it be serving an administration in a national security post, whether it be, possibly when I am term-limited on Homeland, going to chair the Foreign Relations committee — or going home … I have five kids,” he told the Tribune.
