When the news broke Friday about the FBI reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s secret, unsecured email server, her campaign made a series of public statements they knew to be untrue, according to campaign manager Robby Mook.
Campaign chairman John Podesta, and Clinton herself, made statements Friday that FBI director James Comey only sent the letter announcing the new development to Republicans in Congress. But the two page letter itself was not only sent to eight Republican Congressional Committee Chairmen, it was also sent to Democratic Ranking Members of those same committees.
Clinton and Podesta’s statements gave the impression the FBI letter was a partisan exercise. But page two of the letter clearly listed the eight Ranking Democratic Members of those same committees.
Friday, Clinton told a crowd, “If they’re going to be sending this kind of letter that is only going originally to Republican members of the House, that they need to share whatever facts they claim to have with the American people.”
Podesta, in a written statement Friday, made the same allegation, that the letter was only sent to Republicans.
When asked about this accusation on “Fox News Sunday,” Mook admitted the campaign knew the letter was not a partisan letter sent only to Republicans.
“Chris, if your question is whether Democratic leaders were cc’ed on that letter, the answer is absolutely yes,” Mook told host Chris Wallace.
Mook claimed Clinton and Podesta had only “looked at the front page” of the letter, to which Wallace pointed out it had been in their possession for hours before either statement was made.
