GOP Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin slammed his Democratic opponent, former Sen. Russ Feingold, for failing to live up to promises to his constituents in the campaign’s closing ad of the 2016 election cycle, released Wednesday.

The statewide 30-second television spot, titled “34 Years,” paints Feingold as a career politician who accomplished little during his tenure in Congress.

The ad blasts the Democrat for walking back on his 1992 pledge to raise most of his campaign funds within the state, noting 69.5 percent of his campaign contributions this cycle came from out-of-state.

“Feingold formed a shady political group to line his own pockets,” the ad says, in reference to Feingold’s PAC, Progressives United, raising $130,000 over the course of a week, telling donors their money would be used toward the party’s recall effort — yet none of that went toward the cause. Instead just $2,500 went to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin during the 2012 cycle while the former senator took in $7,500 according to Federal Election Committee reports.

WATCH:

The ad then goes on to attack Feingold for touting his involvement in Obamacare, which a number of experts say is collapsing.

Johnson and Feingold are in one of the tightest Senate races in the country, with the latest Marquette survey showing the candidates polling within the margin of error.
