Law enforcement officials caught a suspect who allegedly killed two Des Moines police officers as they sat in their squad cars early Wednesday morning, Reuters reports. The suspect is 46-year-old Scott Michael Greene of Urbandale.

According to Reuters, Greene may have had a recent run-in with police and a 10-minute video posted to YouTube in October by a user calling himself Scott Greene showed an interaction with officers after an incident at a sports arena. Two Officers Killed In ‘Ambush-Style Attacks’ In Iowa

Des Moines Police Department spokesman Paul Parizek told a reporters at a news conference before Greene’s arrest that “we may never know” what provoked him to allegedly kill the officers.

Des Moines Police say the incident happened at 1:06 a.m. when a police officer arrived on the scene after responding to a report of shots fired near 70th and Aurora.

The officer discovered an Urbandale police officer injured from a gunshot wound in his squad car. Twenty minutes thereafter, a Des Moines officer was found shot in his patrol car at an intersection. Both officers died from their injuries and police described the assaults as ambush-style attacks.

“These guys were gunned down, sitting in their car doing nothing wrong,” Parizek said at the news conference before the arrest. “There is a clear and present danger to police officers right now. There’s definitely danger out there right now.”
