Exit polling conducted Tuesday by Morning Consult revealed that voters are anxious of both Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Voters were given several dozen character traits, and asked to rate which traits described each candidate.
The leading five traits for Trump were “stubborn” with 81 percent, “arrogant” followed closely with 78 percent. The more positive “says what he believes” earned 68 percent, and 60 percent of voters reported they viewed the Republican nominee as “reckless.”
“Sexist” and “changes his mind” were tied for fourth place with 59 percent of voters reporting those words best described Trump.
“Stubborn” was the second highest trait attributed to Clinton with 60 percent of the vote. Sixty-eight percent of voters reported they felt Clinton was more knowledgeable than the Republican nominee.
Fifty-nine percent of voters felt Clinton changed her mind, while 57 percent reported they felt that Clinton “has the right experience” to be president. Fifty-six percent of voters reported they felt Clinton was not willing to admit to mistakes she made in her previous posts.
Neither candidate did well with likeability. Sixty-seven percent felt Trump wasn’t easy to like, compared to “just” 60 percent who reported the same about Clinton.
Seventy-three percent of voters reported that Trump was “too liberal,” compared to 74 percent who rated Clinton as “too conservative.” Sixty-two percent reported they viewed Clinton as sexist.
Interestingly, 63 percent of voters said that Trump “made them proud.” Fifty-nine percent of voters said that Trump was moral, according to the poll.
Clinton went into election day with a 3.2 percent lead in the Real Clear nationwide polling average, earning 46.8 percent compared to Trump’s 43.6 percent.
The poll was conducted from Oct. 18 through Nov.8 in either election day or early voting nationwide. Morning Consult surveyed 13,909 voters to reach a margin of error of 1 percentage point in either direction.
