Republican Sen. Richard Burr defeated former Democratic state Rep. Deborah Ross in the North Carolina Senate Race Tuesday.

Ross came up short in fundraising as well, earning $10,815,187 as of Nov. 6, compared to Burr’s $12,022,145 in the campaign chest. Although Burr outraised the Democratic nominee, the two spent about the same by the end of October.

Burr went into election day with a slight lead in the polls, earning a 2 percent lead in the Real Clear statewide polling average. The last poll in the race was published by the New York Times, and showed Burr leading by 1 percent in the race.

Political statistician Nate Silver predicted a Burr win, giving the Republican a 75.1 percent chance of clinching the statewide Senate race in the poll-plus forecast. The UVA Center for Politics also predicted a Burr win, giving the race a “leans Republican” rating.

WATCH:

Burr won 61.4 percent of the vote in the Republican primary, earning 627,354 individual votes. While Ross earned 62.4 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary — 607,802 individual voters cast a ballot for Ross in her primary.

The two squared off in a single debate on Oct. 13, discussing the affordable care act extensively. Two two also opposed one another on the Iran nuclear deal, as well as the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal.
