Former Democratic state Attorney General of Nevada Catherine Cortez Masto defeated Republican Rep. Joe Heck in the Nevada Senate race Tuesday.

The Nevada Senate race to replace Sen. Harry Reid was well-funded. Masto outraised Heck by nearly $5 million, raising $16,063,918 as of Nov. 6. Heck raised $11,083,639 in the race.

Masto went into the general election with a slight lead in the Real Clear polling average, earning a .4 percent lead in the polls. Although Heck earned as much as a seven-percent lead in a statewide NBC poll published in October, Nevada Democrats came to the polls for the Democratic politician.

WATCH:

Political statistician Nate Silver gave Masto a 52.7 percent chance of winning the race, and the UVA Center for Politics agreed, giving the race a “leans Democratic” rating in their latest projection published Monday.

WATCH:

Heck and Masto met in only one debate scheduled on Oct. 14. Heck’s primary was much closer than Masto’s, with the representative only earning 64 percent of the vote, or slightly over 74,000 individual votes. Masto earned 80 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary, earning almost 82,000 votes.
